MY VINTAGE FINDS: NORTH SYDNEY MARKET

Recently The Lipstick Girl has been very busy going around Sydney to various markets (sweet joy!).
Two weeks ago I went to the North Sydney Market, which had a Parisian-style flea market full of 'Trash n' Treasure'. As my first time attending the market, it was fun and cute with some great vintage items.

There were even vintage Glomesh and Oroton bags, as well as many brooches, jewellery and other accessories.

Some tips to ensure you buy the best vintage pieces:
  • Always check the condition of an item - look for stains, rips, tears, missing buttons/beading/other decorations, loose thread, broken zippers/clasps, etc. - if present, don't buy, unless it is essential and you can easily repair it
  • Check what you are buying is authentically vintage by examining the quality of the material(s), colour, features, overall design and brand

Here are some new vintage wonders I sourced from the market! Enjoy x

  1. 60s style green, white and navy scarf.
  2. 80s Hawaiian parrot, hibiscus flower and pineapple gold brooch.
  3. Large pearl beaded gold necklace.

For more information about the market go to the North Sydney Market website

P.S. The next market is on 8 June!

STREET STYLE: AUTUMN

The leaves are fading to red-orange hues and the winter chill is approaching. Monochrome, simplistic and minimalist outfits suitable for the cooler temperatures come to mind when experiencing the season. Incorporate blazers, felt hats, and black heels or brogues into your styling. Try going for a natural look with a touch of colour, perhaps bright pink, coral or peach lipstick, paired with bold accessories including clutches, handbags, or chunky watches and bracelets. Start getting those jumpers and trench coats out of your closet too.
The Lipstick Girl loves Alexa Chung's mix-matching of pieces in her outfit ensembles.

MY VINTAGE FINDS: BROOCHES!

Being an avid vintage collector, I adore vintage fashion accessories. In particular, rare and unique brooches are great finds. Brooches are easy to wear and add a stylish touch to any outfit. Here are some of my best finds of beautiful brooches, both old and new, each with an old-fashioned twist.

  1. 1950s multi-coloured flower brooch with leaves and berries.

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHT: MBFWA 2013

From clean lines of Camilla and Marc, to vibrant galactic-like costumes of Romance Was Born, and to edgy and elegant ensembles of Gabriel Lee, the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2013 at Carriageworks, Sydney, was definitely this week's highlight. With front row celebrities, upcoming local and international designers, top models, and unique street style, it was an excitement for all. There was a great variety of colour, shape and line, which created a magnificent atmosphere and presented an insightful perspective of the fashion world prevalent in Australia. Despite not attending the amazing fashion event, I was still able to absorb the action-packed excitement of shows through the MBFWA website and other blogs.

The Lipstick Girl loves... the stunning lip colour used by Lisa Ho. Check it out and have a try yourself (Hair Romance)!
