MY VINTAGE FINDS: NORTH SYDNEY MARKET
Recently The Lipstick Girl has been very busy going around Sydney to various markets (sweet joy!).
Two weeks ago I went to the North Sydney Market, which had a Parisian-style flea market full of 'Trash n' Treasure'. As my first time attending the market, it was fun and cute with some great vintage items.
There were even vintage Glomesh and Oroton bags, as well as many brooches, jewellery and other accessories.
Some tips to ensure you buy the best vintage pieces:
- Always check the condition of an item - look for stains, rips, tears, missing buttons/beading/other decorations, loose thread, broken zippers/clasps, etc. - if present, don't buy, unless it is essential and you can easily repair it
- Check what you are buying is authentically vintage by examining the quality of the material(s), colour, features, overall design and brand
Here are some new vintage wonders I sourced from the market! Enjoy x
- 60s style green, white and navy scarf.
- 80s Hawaiian parrot, hibiscus flower and pineapple gold brooch.
- Large pearl beaded gold necklace.
For more information about the market go to the North Sydney Market website.
P.S. The next market is on 8 June!

MY VINTAGE FINDS: BROOCHES!
Being an avid vintage collector, I adore vintage fashion accessories. In particular, rare and unique brooches are great finds. Brooches are easy to wear and add a stylish touch to any outfit. Here are some of my best finds of beautiful brooches, both old and new, each with an old-fashioned twist.
On Friday 15 March, I attended the Love Vintage Show in Sydney. A spectrum of colours, entertainment, fashion (accessories, clothes, shoes, textiles, you name it), homewares, furniture and collectibles, the show had an amazing atmosphere, and not to mention, one of the best selections of all things vintage. Arriving at the show at the Hordern Pavilion, Moore Park, I was greeted by famous bloggers, including Nora Finds. I had entered wonderland. There were stalls surrounding me in every direction and I didn't know where to start! There was dancing to old tunes, free workshops, and vintage-lovers and buyers strolling infinitely.- 1950s multi-coloured flower brooch with leaves and berries.
- 1950/60s oval cream and orange ceramic floral brooch with metal border detail.
- 1920s style art deco blue, silver and black bow brooch.
- Oval brooch with Monet's painting, from Claude Monet's Garden in Giverny, France.
- Coral, cream and gold-coloured oval cameo brooch, from Kirribilli Markets, Sydney.
- 1990s metallic blue-grey circular brooch with stars and multi-coloured diamentes, from Paddington Markets, Sydney.
- 1950s white flower brooch with leaves.
WEEKLY HIGHLIGHT: LOVE VINTAGE SHOW, SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA
I ended up scoring 4 beautifully-made vintage Japanese dresses from Vintage Junkyard which I absolutely adore and wear with pleasure. They are particularly well-fitting at a perfect long length, and create an elegant style with any pair of loafers or flats and red lipstick. The Love Vintage Shows are showcased in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane, and I strongly recommend that any Lipstick Girl, vintage or not, should go.
